Trivia

  • The Glasgow Herald reports: DISORDERLY RANGERS’ SUPPORTERS IN EDINBURGH Thirteen members of a Rangers’ brake club were fined £1 each in Edinburgh Police Court on Saturday for behaving in a disorderly manner in Edinburgh on December 24. The Prosecutor said they were travelling along Princes Street in a charabanc shouting loudly and waving blue flags from poles, which they pushed out at cable cars, other vehicles, and pedestrians. Match report from The Scotsman, 16th January 1922

[…] At Clydeholm the Celtic played Clydebank before an attendance of 9000. The ground was slippery, owing to the frost and subsequent thaw, and the footing was difficult. Despite the conditions play was wonderfully good, and as the game progressed the players adapted themselves fairly well. The Celtic, who were oftener on the attack, found Morton a stumbling block, even the craftiness of McNair and Dodds could not keep Shaw from being called upon. He saved a good drive from Goldie, and that was the best shot during the first half-hour. Five minutes from the interval McFarlane, playing well ahead, snapped up a pass from Gallacher, and, being unchallenged, had little difficulty in beating Morton. Clydebank made strenuous efforts in the second half to equalise, but the issue was put beyond doubt when Gallacher shot hard and true from 20 yards range, and put the Celtic two up. Shaw saved a fast drive from McLavin near the close.

Celtic Win

Celtic’s success at Clydebank following upon their victory at Hamilton a fortnight ago, indicates that the Parkhead team have overcome the spell of comparative failures that for a time attended their engagements away from Celtic Park. Against opponents who fully maintained their fine form of the previous week, Celtic showed convincing power and effectiveness, and that as much as the two points by which they reduced the difference between themselves and the leaders makes it more than ever probable now that they will seriously dispute Rangers’ bid for the honours. Gallagher was again the notable performer for Celtic. The elusive and gifted forward, making light of the ground conditions, proved too clever for his opponents.
