Review

Joe Cassidy’s remarkable goalscoring run continues as Celtic close in on the title. Win moves Celtic three clear of Rangers, who now, critically, only have one game in hand (note: it was only two points for a win at this stage).

Match report from The Scotsman, 10th April 1922

[…] Dundee were disappointing company at Pakhead, Glasgow, where the Celtic won easily. From the start the Dundee half-backs failed to hold the Celtic forwards, who were at the top of their form. In seven minutes Cassidy hooked a grounded pass from McAtee into the net well out of Fotheringham’s reach, and a few minutes later Gallacher got a second point. After that Dundee improved, but there was little combination in the forward line, and Shaw had practically nothing to do. Ten minutes after the restart Cassidy heated [sic] through a third goal, and McAtee finished the scoring with a shot which Fotheringham touched but could not prevent entering the net. In a closing rally by the visitors Halliday headed against the bar with Shaw out of his goal.

Celtic and Rangers Win

Celtic had two and Rangers three of their leading players in the International match at Birmingham, but rather than increase the congestion of fixtures that postponement would cause they risked their championship chances and carried through their scheduled engagements. In the circumstances it was well that both clubs won. Celtic had Dundee as their opponents at Parkhead, and the leaders won by the substantial margin of 4 goals to none. Yet the score did not flatter the winners, Dundee, excepting at goal, being mediocre company. Celtic pressed from the start and after a few minutes Cassidy opened the scoring from a centre by McAtee. Five minutes later Gallagher added a second goal. Dundee afterwards showed to some advantage, and the home side were unable to increase their lead before the interval. In the second half Dundee pressed hard, but met with no success, while the home side scored two more goals, Cassidy, and McAtee being the marksmen.
