Match report from The Scotsman, 6th November 1922

CELTIC IN MODERATE FORM
In a scrappy game at Shawfield Park, Glasgow, Celtic beat Clyde by a goal, scored fifteen minutes after the start by McFarlane, who was operating at centre-forward for the day. The Celtic, who had Cringan at right back, had the pulling the first half, but the forwards never settled to a combined game, and were repeatedly pulled up for offside. Play was even in the second half, but there were few exciting incidents, and neither goalkeeper got much to do. Thomson, a Fife junior, at inside left for the Celtic, showed many clever touches. The attendance would be about 10,000.

The Glasgow Herald – Nov 6, 1922

The champions with an almost unrecognisable eleven beat Clyde at Shawfield Park by 1 goal to 0, Celts’ victory being mainly to the credit of Gallagher, who, though playing under the handicap of a painful facial injury for part of the game was the most able and dangerous forward.

Celtic’s unfamiliar team won the points, but had Clyde taken their chances in the second half when the visitors’ defence was by no means steady the result might have been different. Celtic who had the better of the argument in the first half, got their goal in that period, Thomson, who made a highly successful debut, making it easy for McFarlane to beat Anderson with an unsaveable shot. Clyde were on top after the interval, but bad shooting and bad luck combined denied them a division of the points.
