Match report from The Scotsman, 15th March 1923

CELTIC'S STEADY DEFENCE
At Hamilton yesterday, before 8000 spectators, the Celtic, who were without McNair and Gallacher, were, contrary to the run of play, a goal up in ten minutes, Cassidy beating Sommerville when very suspiciously placed. The Academicals provided the thrills from the taking of this goal til the last ten minutes. Assault following assault was made on Shaw's charge, and when Collins equalised after 30 minutes' play the Academicals looked like winning, so persistent were their forwards' attacks in comparison with the disjointed efforts of the Celtic front rank. Eventually the Hamilton spent itself against the able defence of Shaw, McStay, and Cringan, and play took a turn in Celtic's favour, during which Cassidy with a great single-handed effort came near to winning the match. The Hamilton defenders, and especially Sommerville, Hunter, Kirkwood, and Thomson, successfully stood up to the incessant attacks.
