Match report from The Scotsman, 30th April 1923

The closing league game at Celtic Park, Glasgow, between Celtic and Airdrieonians, produced one of the best games of the season, and a draw was a good result. Celtic commenced well, but once the Airdrie forwards settled, Shaw and his backs were kept busy. Both wings combined well, and Gallagher in the centre was always ready for a dash in on goal. After twenty-five minutes Gallagher beat McNair, and sent in a strong shot which Shaw only partially cleared, and Russell lying handy, drove the ball into the net. From this to the interval Celtic pressed strongly, shots from McFarlane and McAtee being held by Dempster. Immediately after the interval Gallagher came near to increasing Airdrie’s lead with a great shot which struck the post. In the subsequent play Celtic tried hard to draw level, but were easily held by the Airdrie defence, who were playing a brilliant game.Twenty minutes from the end McQueen accidentally handled the ball, and the Celtic were awarded a penalty kick from which W. McStay equalised.
