Match report from The Scotsman, 8th October 1923

THREE GOALS FOR CELTIC CENTRE FORWARD
Celtic found little difficulty in beating Clyde at Parkhead, and their victory was fully merited. Clyde did best in the first half, when their defence played a very steady game, and their forwards often worked into good positions, only to fail at close quarters. There were no goals scored in the first half, but five minutes after the start a cross from Connelly was swept into the net by McLean. Cassidy got the second goal by forcing Shingleton and the ball over the line, and the same player scored a third from a cross by McLean. Clyde were rarely in the picture now, and their overworked defence had again to admit defeat, Cassidy again being the marksman, thus performing the hat trick. Although losing four goals, Shingleton played a grand game, and saved his side on many occasions. The attendance was six thousand.
