Match report from The Scotsman, 3rd January 1924

RANGERS STILL UNDEFEATED
Rangers still retain their unbeaten certificate, but they had to fight hard to save a point in the game against Celtic at Parkhead, Glasgow. The game was one of the hardest and fastest seen between the sides, with many exciting incidents in the closing stages of the game. Celtic were certainly on top during the first 45 minutes. Their defence completed dominated the Rangers’ forwards, and their own attack, striking a strong and pushful game, often had the Rangers’ defence in difficulties. Cassidy, Gallacher, and Connolly provided some clever touches, but Rangers’ defence managed to hold out until the interval. Five minutes after resuming a delightful movement between Thomson, Cassidy, and Connolly brought the first goal, Thomson sweeping the ball into the net well out of Robb’s reach. It was only after this that Rangers showed their real form, but the grand defence of McNair and W. McStay looked like keeping them out until a nicely-placed free kick by Cunningham enabled Cairns to beat Shaw. Shortly after Celtic were awarded a penalty kick, from which W. McStay put Celtic on the lead. From this point Rangers kept Celtic busy defending, and five minutes from the finish Archibald, after beating two opponents, gave Shaw no chance with his drive from close in. The attendance was fully 50,000.
