Celtic Lose a Point
Airdrieonians’ victory enabled them to retain their position second from the top and their prospects of ultimately finishing as runner-up was improved by the failure of Celtic to overcome Partick Thistle. In this game Celtic, without Gallagher and McLean, were robbed of the main driving power in their attack, and their failure at close quarters at Firhill Park cost them a point. Partick Thistle were reinforced by the return, after ten weeks absence through injury, of their well-known forward Kinloch, who showed evidence of a complete recovery, and was their best forward. Cassidy headed the opening goal for Celtic, and Gibson from a penalty award equalised for Thistle, the only goals scored and both registered in the first half. As Partick Thistle won the first game at Celtic Park, they have taken three points from their more famous rivals, and that they had not previously accomplished in one season. Unfortunately here, as at Hampden Park, a Celtic player came under the ban of the referee. Cassidy, Celtic’s International forward being dismissed by the official.
