The Glasgow Herald, Monday 31st August 1925

Celtic’s experience against Hamilton Academicals was not so happy, but here also, if they did not get as many goals, the disparity between the sides was almost as pronounced. That more goals did not accrue was due more to the fact that the shooting of Celtic was erratic, than to any merit of the Hamilton me.

Celtic started, McGrory making progress but he was stopped on the right. On the other side Borland got away but his parting shot was wide. Hamilton Academicals kept up the pressure, forcing a corner, which was cleared by W. McStay. Celtic afterwards attacked, McGrory testing Somerville. Two corners fell to Celtic, but neither was converted. In the second half McInally opened the scoring after 17 minutes and near the end J. McStay headed through from a corner.

CELTIC COMFORTABLE WINNERS

Fully 12,000 spectators saw the Celtic defeat Hamilton Academicals at Celtic Park, Glasgow. It was a fi ne sporting game, and there was no mistaking the superiority of the home side. It was a fine fight in the first half, when the Celtic, playing against a strong wind, more than held their own, but in the second half the visitors were kept pretty much on the defensive. The Celtic forwards, well backed by their half-backs, played find football, but they found Somerville, McCormack, and Johnston difficult to beat. Fifteen minutes after the start of the second half Somerville made his only mistake by allowing a fast ground shot from McInally to pass between his legs into the net. Three minutes from the finish J. McStay headed through a second goal for the Celtic following a corner kick. W. McStay, J. McStay, McInally and McLean were best for Celtic, and for Academicals the entire defence, Hunt, Gibson, and Moffat were outstanding.
