GLASGOW CUP

DEFEAT OF THE CELTIC

The unexpected happened at Celtic Park, Glasgow, where Clyde, after a great fight triumphed over the Celtic in the Glasgow Cup final. Despite the fact that both teams had played two stiff games during the week, the game was fought out at a great pace throughout. Clyde deserved every credit for their victory, as they had to play throughout the second half without Cowan, who met an injury just before the interval. The Second Division team made a good start, and when four minutes had gone W. McStay, when hard pressed by McLachlan, put the ball through his own goal. McGrory made the scores level after 16 minutes’ play, but before the interval Gibson again gave the Clyde the lead by heading the ball into the net following a corner kick. In the second half the Celtic made desperate efforts to save the game, but some poor shooting, coupled with a great defensive display by Clyde, nullified their efforts. Fraser kept a grand goal for the winners, and of the others, Gibson, McGuire, Kelly, Malone, and McLachlan were best. The attendance was about 23,000.
