CELTIC AND AIRDRIE ADVANCE

In a complete card on Saturday in the Senior League results generally were according to form, a notable exception being the defeat of Rangers at Ibrox Park by Dundee. Amongst the leading competitors Celtic and Airdrieonians profited most by the afternoon’s work, each securing maximum points whereas the leaders, St. Mirren and second club, Motherwell, lost a point apiece. Celtic at Greenock played brilliant football, and beat Morton by 5 goals to none, the biggest score of the afternoon. In the winners’ capable attack none excelled McLean, the Celtic outside left, who ably supported  by McInally, gave a display of finished forward work that was reassuring in view of his selection for the international game at Cardiff next Saturday.

For some time play was of a level description, but ultimately Celtic got a goal through McInally. Morton struggled hard to equalise, but there was no further scoring before the interval. On changing ends Celtic forced a corner, which was cleared. Celtic asserted themselves, and in ten minutes McGrory headed the second goal and Thomson, McGrory, and McLean all beat Fortheringham.
