- John Thomson made a welcome come-back from injury against the already doomed St Johnstone. Saints lost another two points at Celtic Park, where they were beaten by 6 goals to 2. McGrory marked his return to the Celtic team with three goals; Scarff, Napier and Alec Thomson were the other scorers. St Johnstone did not go down without a fight and scored through centre-forward Stewart in 40 minutes and John Cameron with a minute to go.
- On Saturday, with Rangers already champions, the interest centred on the adventures of those clubs fighting for promotion and those struggling to avoid relegation. The vital character of many of the matches in this connection led to stirring encounters, and not a few surprises. One such was the meeting of Aberdeen and Dundee United at Pittodrie. The former, potential runners-up in the First Division, nearly suffered their first reverse on their home ground. It was a good performance on the part of the lowly Dundee club to take a point from the match. It may not do much in the direction of saving them from relegation, however, for Morton were also picking up a point in their match with Airdrieonians. Cowdenbeath slipped down further with a defeat at Dens Park.
- In the English League, Sheffield Wednesday further strengthened their position by a victory over West Ham United, while at the same time Derby County, their nearest rivals, were sharing the points with Huddersfield Town. In the latter match the Cup finalists' captain was ordered off the field for disputing the award of Derby's equalising goal. Events at the bottom of the League made it probable that Everton, for the first time in their career will have to sojourn a while in the Second Division. An Arsenal victory takes the Cup finalists out of the danger-zone. Newcastle United are still there, however, and did not improve their prospects with a defeat at Portsmouth. Grimsby Town were also beaten.
- Final preparations were made in Glasgow at the week-end for a march to London by a band of unemployed men, recruited from various parts of Scotland, to protest against “the failure of the Labour Government either to find employment for or to alleviate the conditions of the unemployed in Great Britain.” The marchers hope to meet with the Prime Minister and other members of the Cabinet and give them a charter demanding that unemployment benefit be increased to 30 shillings (£1.50) per week. Heading the procession will be a banner declaring: "Under-Fed, Under-Clad, Under the Labour Government".

SIX GOALS, FOR CELTIC.
There were about 5,000 spectators at Celtic Park. A heavy, shower of sleet kept many away from the game, but fortunately it cleared off before the start.
John Thomson made a reappearance after an absence of two months, and McGrory was also in his usual place.
The home team won rather easily, and, while they thoroughly deserved their victory, they owed a lot to McGrory, who had three goals. Scarff opened the scoring after the game had progressed only eight minutes, and a quarter of an hour later Napier increased the lead.
Nearing half-time, St Johnstone came more into the game, and Stewart, their centre, headed through.
Three minutes from the interval McGrory gathered a pass and shot hard against an upright. Catching the rebound, he beat, McLaren, and immediately after the resultant centre kick he again forced his way through and put St Johnstone further behind.
The Perth team tried hard after the resumption to reduce the lead, but their forwards, with the exception of Stevenson and Nicolson were most inept.
A. Thomson increased the Celtic score inside 20 minutes, and three minutes from the end McGrory raised the score to six.
In the closing minute Cameron scored St Johnstone's second goal.
