CELTIC, 4;-THIRD LANARK, 2.

At Celtic Park, before 12,000 spectators, Celtic took the opportunity in their evening game with Third Lanark to try their young centre-half, McDonald, this being the only change in the team that appeared last Saturday.

Play was even during the opening stages, both goalkeepers being called upon in turn, the most dangerous effort being one by A. Thomson that Reford did well to save at the expense of a corner.

Third Lanark were decidedly fortunate when a fine header from McGrory struck the crossbar.

As half-time approached Celtic put on considerable pressure, but the third Lanark's defence was sound. Dewar was being well held by McDonald although the young pivot did not confine himself to watching the centre-forward.

McGrory had several good tries; his movements suggesting that he is quite sound again. Meeting a fine cross by Peter Wilson, McGrory shot into, the corner of the net from twelve yards. Two minutes later a long clearance, after a clever tackle by McGonagle, sent Napier off on the left touch-line. He crossed and McGrory caught it up and, taking careful aim, put Celtic further ahead.

Within two minutes of the restart a beautiful movement by Wilson, the Thomsons, McGrory and Napier ended in Napier scoring.

Slackness on the part of the home defence soon brought about a change of atmosphere, and when Dewar scored in twenty-five minutes and McKenzie put on another a minute later, there was any amount of electricity in the air. Had Dewar kept cool the scores might have been equal, but the centre was in too big a hurry and shot over when well placed.

In the closing-minutes Celtic pressed hard, and McGrory crossed for Cameron to score.
