CLYDE'S DEFEAT

Clyde sustained their first League defeat of the season when their near neighbours, the Celtic, defeated them after a thrilling competition at Shawfield Park, Glasgow by three goals to nothing.

The score to a great extent flattered the Celtic, who had to fight hard for their victory. The appearance of McGrory made all the difference to the Celtic attack, his generalship and strong finishing, inspiring the other forwards to give of their best.

In leading up work the Clyde forwards were just as clever as the Celtic men, but when it came to finishing they seemed to lose all sense of direction.

Both sides were strong in defence, but Kennaway had an easy time in the Celtic goal, compared with Stevenson, who many times saved Clyde.

For the first ten minutes Clyde were the more aggressive side, and after Kennaway had twice cleared, Carroll smartly beat McGonagle, and hit the side of the, net with a powerful drive.

In 12 minutes McGrory, all against the run of play, headed the ball into the net from a cross by Delaney. From that point the Parkhead side played strong, forceful football, and Stevenson three times saved brilliantly from McGrory.

In 26 minutes Delaney put the Celtic two up.

The play in the second half was just as keen, but Clyde, although getting chances, continued to throw them away, Johnston and Robertson being the biggest sinners.

It was different with Celtic, and after Stevenson had made a full length save from F. O'Donnell. Buchan took a pass from Delaney, and scored Celtic's third goal.

The attendance was about 20,000.
