Trivia

  • Rangers were the only winners of the top four clubs on Saturday and Celtic are still sitting in 5th place four points behind Rangers having played two games more than the leaders.
  • In England Sunderland's unexpected home defeat by West Bromwich Albion, which came after four victories was no surprise as the Roker Park side had lost three home games prior to this but have yet to lose on the road.
  • The Hon. Mrs. Victor Bruce who is attempting to fly from England to Cape Town by Autogyro landed at Dijon this afternoon. She is accompanied by an aeroplane, piloted by Mr. Pugh, which carries spare parts and petrol. BUCHAN'S FOUR GOALS

Celtic beat Dundee after quite an exhilarating game. The home team served up a brilliant exhibition of football reminiscent of their palmy days.

It was a treat to see the eagerness and skill of the forwards, and the quick, strong tackling of the intermediate line. The cohesion between these two divisions of the team was the deciding factor in the game, and put Celtic as a team, far above their opponents.

The most outstanding feature of an attractive game was Buchan's performance in scoring all of his side’s four goals, the inside right had a very good day, and demonstrated the value of following up his centre forward. Three of his goals were a direct result of this method, and the fourth was the outcome of a well-executed movement where he got possession 40 yards out, and after beating two men, drove in a fast shot from 25 yards.

After an opening Dundee raid Celtic set up a hot siege of Marsh's goal, and 4 minutes after the start Marsh was unfortunate to be beaten at a ball from Buchan which struck Morgan and was deflected past the keeper.

The visitors then attacked strongly but the quick tackling of the Celtic half-backs nullified their efforts. Buchan added a second goal just before half-time, when the ball came off the cross-bar from a shot which was sent in by F. O'Donnell.

In the second half Dundee opened very well, but their forwards would not go in on the Celtic goal, electing rather to shoot from long range, with the result that Kennaway was never seriously troubled. Robertson came near, however, with a fast-rising shot.

Buchan snapped another goal, and then Dundee's challenge faded out, except for an occasional flash by Coats. Ten minutes from the end came the best goal of the match.

Marsh, although beaten four times, was brilliant and saved his side from an overwhelming defeat. Gilmour, Symon, and Coats were the other visitors prominent. Buchan, McGrory, and McGonagle were the best of a good Celtic team.

The attendance was 10,000.
