  • Book review in the Scotsman looks at a novel “Don't You Weep, Don't You Moan”, by Richard Coleman, 7s/6d, McMillan publishers, which is described as: “a thoroughly realistic account of the life of a company of ordinary negroes living in a fair-sized American town. While they may all appear the same to us, they do not so appear to themselves.”

RELEGATION STRUGGLE ENDS IN FAILURE AT PARKHEAD

CELTIC'S 7-3 VICTORY

Defeated by Celtic by seven goals to three at Parkhead last night, Falkirk’s struggle to avoid relegation to the Second Division ended in failure.

FALKIRK'S SECOND HALF FALLING OFF

Although they played some really good football during the first half of the match at Parkhead last night, Falkirk fell away badly after the interval, when Celtic applied pressure, and in the end were outclassed. Their rear division was fairly good, although their backs were often beaten for speed, and only Low of the intermediate line came out of the game with credit. Ballantyne and Wilson were the only forwards who displayed craft.

Celtic played delightful football throughout. Owing to the broken weather, the attendance was poor, only five thousand being present.

The first half was very closely fought, Falkirk recovering towards the end to draw level after being two goals down. Bartram opened the scoring for Falkirk, but successive goals by McGrory and one by Buchan gave Celtic a 3-1 lead that over-emphasised the grip of the home defence on the Falkirk attack. Bartram's opportunism was rewarded with a goal towards the close of the half, and Baxter equalised following a corner.

Falkirk's attack was almost as persistent in the second half, but it lacked spiritedness, and could not overcome the Parkhead defence. The Celtic forwards, after F. O'Donnell restored their lead, found little difficulty in scoring, and Delaney, H. O'Donnell, and Delaney again increased Celtic's total to seven, a total that emphasised Falkirk's double failure.
