THIRD LANARK SURPRISE CELTIC

Celtic, 1; Third Lanark, 1.

Third Lanark followed up their sweeping victory over Aberdeen on Saturday by giving an inspiring display against Celtic yesterday afternoon.
They were, indeed, the superior side during the first half and on pressure ought to have crossed over with more than their one goal margin.

Even in the early stages of the second half they threatened the home goal on several occasions but when Celtic pressed the Cathkin men made the mistake of concentrating on defence, and this proved their undoing.

Celtic's form fell below that of Saturday's game, but there was no denying their superiority during the greater portion of the second half. Their left wing was weak, and Crum, while a great worker, did not always accept his opportunities.

Third Lanark surprised their opponents by playing exceptionally fast and open football, and their forwards were splendidly supported by two good wing halves Blair and McInnes; Denmark devoting himself to holding up Crum.

When Hay scored for Third Lanark after twenty-five minutes' play, the point was overdue, and yet Celtic might easily have led, as Delaney and Crum had missed easy opportunities.

It appeared as if Celtic were going to be defeated when McGonagle, limping slightly, went to outside left position, but immediately afterwards they became dangerous. Seventeen minutes from the end McDonald sent through for Crum to equalise, and until the end Celtic pressed strongly.
