MORTON NO MATCH FOR CELTIC

Celtic did not have very much trouble in accounting for Morton at Parkhead.

The visitors started off brightly, but were very soon on the defensive, and for most of the game Celtic were attacking. Only superb defensive work by Stewart, Robb, and Maley kept Celts from running up a bigger score.

The opening play appeared to favour Morton, who were by no means overcome by the occasion. Collins and McGarry were lively raiders for the visitors, but Black was not too alert to the chances which were made for him.

It took Celts twenty-eight minutes to score. Buchan seized on a loose ball just past midfield and worked well in, before shooting. Stewart saved his first effort, but Buchan was following up, and sent his second effort into the net. Having found the way, Celts soon rammed home another, Crum scoring a second goal within two minutes.

Five minutes from the interval Crum added number three.

The second half in which Buchan scored again, saw a rather dispirited Morton, but Celtic were on a tight rein, and did not exert themselves too much.

Stewart the visiting goalkeeper brought off some wonderful saves, but Morton have a lot of worry ahead of them.

The attendance was 15,000.
