CELTIC HELD AGAIN

A crowd of 22,000 at Cathkin Park saw a game that was not quite so thrilling or so good as was anticipated.

Celtic were the more attractive players at the start, and only the dependable work of Carabine at right back and Black at centre-half held them at bay. Johnstone, the home left back, had some difficulty combating the wiles of Buchan and Delaney.

After twenty minutes, Celtic were awarded a penalty. It seemed a severe punishment, and the home supporters voiced deep resentment against Referee Baillie's decision. Buchan converted. Later on, Carruth headed against a post, while another lucky escape for Third was the sounding of the half-time whistle just as Delaney was on the point of shooting at a few yards range.

Third Lanark's forwards, who had scarcely been seen so far, came into their own on the resumption, and Celtic's five just as markedly faded out. The home half-backs forced the pace, and with the forwards showing fine zest, Celtic's goal was repeatedly menaced. Jones equalised, and later, from a cross by Hart, Dewar and Jones missed in the most surprising manner.

Hogg and Lyon were Celtic's best defenders. The forwards deteriorated to such an extent in the second half as to leave a suspicion that the attack lacks physical strength and stamina over the last stages of a gruelling game. Carruth was no inspiration as leader, being seldom seen, while Delaney has yet to find his old vivacity.

Murphy, on the left wing, had a thin time against the best defender on the field, Carabine.

Dewar did not enjoy much success against the Celtic pivot, Lyon.

Hart, Mason, and Jones did well for Third Lanark.
