CELTIC'S BIG WIN
Celtic took another step to the championship when they beat Partick Thistle soundly at Firhill Park, Glasgow. As the score of 6-1 suggests, play was one-sided, and it was only on odd occasions that the Thistle got away from defending. The absence of Elliot and McLeod, the half-backs, weakened the home side, their substitutes, Busby and Douglas, being quite unable to hold the clever Celtic forwards.
For twenty minutes the home defence fought valiantly against the Celtic attack, but at the end of that period. Divers and Murphy completely beat the Thistle defence for Crum to score. Six minutes later Delaney headed through a cross from Murphy, and four minutes later Murphy made the total three, after an individual run. Before the interval, Delaney again beat Johnstone.
The second half was a repetition of the earlier play, but the Thistle defence fought magnificently and kept their end up for half an hour. Then Wallace, in a quick raid, beat Kennaway, but within a minute, Divers again put Celtic four up.
Shortly afterwards, in a Thistle attack, a penalty kick was awarded, but McKennan shot past from the spot. Three minutes from the end Geatons made the rout complete, when he scored a sixth goal. The attendance was 30,000.
