Trivia

  • On 4th October, George Paterson was exchanged with Brentford for Jerry McAloon. Paterson had been an outstanding player for Celtic before the war and, on enlistment to the RAF he had played on loan to a number of teams south of the border. At this time of his transfer to Brentford he was still suspended (for three months) having invited the referee to 'do something anatomically impossible' with the ball when the ref gave rangers a penalty in the 70th minute in the Victory Cup game of 5th June, 1946. He would return to Celtic as an assistant coach / trainer / scout in 1952.
  • On 8th October, Chic Geatons was appointed head coach at Celtic Park
  • On 19th October, Celtic's goalkeeper, Willie Miller was picked for and played for Scotland against Wales in Cardiff, in which Scotland lost 3-1.
