Match Pictures | Matches: 19471948 | 1947-1948 Pictures

Trivia

  • First game of the new season and as usual at this period of time it started with a League Cup competition with Celtic drawn in a tough group with Rangers, Dundee (who had been promoted to the league Division A this season and who had put Celtic out of the Scottish Cup the previous season), and Third Lanark.
  • The biggest crowd for the opening fixture of a season in the Britain to this date.

Review

Both Rangers goals, which came within ten minutes of each other in the second half, were made by Duncanson and finished by Williamson. Apart from a 20 yard shot by Sirrel that hit the post with Brown stranded, Celtic's forwards never looked like scoring.
