Trivia

  • Francis Walsh was signed from Kilmarnock. This was the centre forward's debut game for the first team. He had scored as shed load of goals against Celtic, and it was hoped that he would solve the lack of goals this season.
  • Willie Miller was away with Scotland playing Wales at Hampden. They were beaten by Wales 2-1.

Review

Often called the "false dawn" game, this was so well attended that the gates to Firhill had to be locked before kick off.
The match started poorly for Celtic with Thistle 2 goals to the better within 15 minutes and they led 3-1 after 55 minutes. However new bhoys Frank Walsh and Tommy McDonald, particularly the latter, sparked a real fight back from the Celtic side. Corbett pulled it back to 3-2 with a penalty and Frank levelled the scores on 60 minutes with Tommy Bogan, having the game of his life, putting the Bhoys ahead on 68. All that remained was for Tommy McDonald to supply the finishing touch and he duly put the last goal away to make it 5-3 to the Celtic at the whistle – an exceptional turnround and what was hoped was to be the start of the revival of the fiortunes of the team.

Colonel John Shaugnessy (?) declared that Celtic would be great again soon and the Daily Herald said that Celtic had recovered the will to win. "Walsh has to a large extent solved the leadership problem."
