Trivia

  • This game had been due to be played on the 26th but was cancelled due to frost and frozen ground. Because of the postponement the draw had been made for the next round and the winners would face Hamilton Academicals away. Even on the 30th a pitch inspection was required and the referee declared the pitch playable at 12:30. The pitch was still covered in hard snow and the lines were marked out with sawdust. The linesmen wore track suits.

Review

Collins didn't seem bothered by the tricky surface and twisted and turned as ever. Conditions affected the quality of play but there was still some good football and Baillie in particular laid on some good passes, one of which saw Bobby Collins run interrupted by a pile of snow. On 9 minutes Robertson came through to beat away a Walsh shot who founf himself clean through on goal. The snow piled up around the ground also affected the taking of corners and shys. After half an hour the pressure had come all from Celtic. Fallon was very close to conceding an own goal close to half time. Luckily Bonnar was able to save. In the second half Celtic claimed for a penalty when Walsh was sent flying but got nothing from the referee. Collins continued to try but the Thirds goal was safe with Robertson. As the game progressed the surface became even more treacherous and both sides were glad to hear the final whistle.
