Trivia

  • Another realignment of the forwards with Walsh out. McAlindon came in at centre forward with McPhail moving one over. Jock Weir also made one of his fleeting appearances this season.
  • The loss in the previous game to Raith Rovers put Celtic in the position of needing to scrap to avoid relegation. The problem lay in the lack of goal scoring. Celtic had scored 31 goals in 22 games – not nearly enough. It was reckoned they needed 26 points from the remaining games to be absolutely safe.

Review

Airdrie attacked and on 5 minutes were close to scoring. On 9 minutes they got the opener. Welsh side-stepped Stein and put his shot away low. It was all pretty much Airdrie attack after attack and they hit the bar on another raid. Both McPhail and Collins were frustrated at the other end.
