Trivia

  • An unchanged team for the last match of the season.
  • Celtic still wanted to consolidate their points total for the season but Third Lanark were looking for survival in the top division.
  • In a very small snippet in the Evening Times on 7th April the SFA Council decided to cancel their motion calling for Celtic to remove the Eire flag by the 30th April. The motion would be non-operative until a conference between the SFA and the Scottish League
  • This game drew the comment that " …. I doubt if I have ever seen a Celtic side so bereft of traditional skill".
  • Fallon finished the season having scored both for and against Third Lanark; and John McPhail finished with a run of scoring in the last seven games.

Review

A two goal finish by the Celts helped them to share the points. Dick opened the scoring after Baillie had blocked a shot. Thirds made most of the game with only Tully getting a mention in the early part of the first half. Collins equalised for Celtic after Tully put McPhail through and his cross was met perfectly by Collins' header. Celtic got back into the game and Robertson had to make saves from most of the Celtic forward line. Thirds got their second goal when Henderson left Boden standing and Dick turned the ball past a stranded Bonnar.
The second half was a blood-n-guts match with both sides going for it with one ort two personal feuds going on as witnessed by the short tete-a-tete between Collins and Mooney. Third's third was a comedy of errors when a clearance was misheaded by Boden and Fallon reached the ball first passing back to Bonnar who failed to grasp the ball.
Collins converted a penalty when Tully was pushed over in the area and with three minutes to go McPhail headed the equaliser from a Tully cross.
