Trivia

  • Bobby Collins was out injured and Jimmy Walsh moved to outside right; this allowed Fernie over to the right side and a first game for John Duffy in the seniors on the left partnering Tully.
  • Debut for John Duffy, and said to have been unfortunate with two early chances. If he had scored either then maybe things could have been so much different for him He was to only go onto play one more game for Celtic.
  • East Fife went top of the league with this victory. They came close to winning the title at the end of the season but didn't make, ending third in the race to the top.
  • Tully was stretchered off with concussion and a cut to the brow after he was crashed into the surrounds

Review

A poor month for Celtic and another loss – and a bad one to the Methil club.

This dropped Celtic to 6th in the table and put East Fife top, with Hibernian, Rangers, Clyde and St Mirren below them.

Duffy missed two chances early on which might have changed matters.

Just after half an hour East Fife scored two both from direct shots. McPhail missed a penalty just before half time.

Then Stein fouled Duncan to give away a penalty at the other end which Emery made no mistake over.

At half time it stood at 3-0 to East Fife.

Tully was booked in the second half for dissent. Fleming got a fourth on 52 minutes.

Tully was stretchered off with concussion and a cut to the brow after he was crashed into the surrounds by Emery. In the 68th minute Celtic pulled one back from an own goal from a melee in the East Fife area.
