Trivia

  • After an excellent game at Ibrox, the replay followed on two nights after at Celtic Park. As Bonnar was out with a broken collarbone, Hunter was in goal; Peacock dropped back to left half and Neil Mochan came in as inside left.

Review

After such a good first game, this replay was something of a let down for the Celtic supporters. Rangers played better and simpler football. The first time Hunter touched the ball was to pick it up out of the back of the net from a Grierson shot and Waddell cross on seven minutes. Paton scored the second on 12 minutes from a Waddell cross. Apart from the goals, Hunter had very little to do whereas Niven at the other end was fairly busy and made the save of the night from Evans after only 5 minutes. Mochan had two shots which shaved the Rangers crossbar. Jock Stein had a bad night in his duel with Paton. Though Celtic had plenty of efforts on goal and Rangers had few, it was the Rangers four that found the net whilst the Celtic forwards again found themselves empty handed.
