Review

Bobby Collins picked up a leg injury in the first half which cramped his usual style. The Mochan-cross-and-Hemple-shot path to goal was looking fruitless and wasteful. Luckily Collins shook off the knock and started to pitch in. Meechan too was also was getting involved in the attacks as his opposition looked in no mood to get forward. The whole quality of the game was suffering and the attacks from both teams were pretty lightweight. Haughney, Stein and Meechan were mopping up everything St Mirren pitched forward. At the end of a dull first half the score was 0-0.
A mix-up in the St Mirren defense immediately after half time allowed Mochan to steal in and in the confusion the ball bounced out and Walsh shot from 30 yards towards an empty net. 1-0. A second goal came when Hemple challenged for the ball on the St Mirren dead ball line and having won it crossed for Mochan to head home. 2-0. Ten minutes later Walsh got the third goal from a Fernie pass. Hemple got a fourth from a headed free kick before the end. In the last minute St Mirren won a penalty which they duly missed. A dull and tedious match.
