Trivia

  • A top-of-the-table clash. Queen of the South had made the early running in the league right up to this weekend. With this loss they surrendered top spot to Hearts, who beat Dundee away 4-2, on 30 points. Celtic were third with two games in hand on 25 points. The team were still unbeaten at home.

Review

A good win for Celtic which put them in a fine spot to challenge for the league title. Mochan could and should have scored a hatful. He did score with two terrific goals, hit the post, hit the crossbar, had one chalked off for offside and was denied several more by excellent goalkeeping. Mochan proved to be unplayable for the Queens defense and it was only Henderson that kept the score down. Fernie was less succesful than other games and McPhail was said to combine excellent leadership with poor finishing. Excellent support was provided by Peacock and Evans and even Stein got into the act. In the second half Queens tried to raise their game and Celtic had to withstand their pressure which came mostly down the wings. Meechan and Peacock found the speed of Black troubling.
