Celtic Finish Stronger

Celtic finished the stronger team at St Mirren Park and deserved their win. They had to fight to the end, however to overcome a strong and determined St Mirren team whose defence might have saved two of the Celtic goals with a little luck. St Mirren's forwards let them down. Their outfield play was clever but their shooting failed. Celtic were much more dangerous near goal. In a well contested first half Celtic showed more method in attack but it was completely against the run of play when Tully scored from eight yards in the eleventh minute. three minutes later the visitors surprisingly got a second goal, Collins beating Park rather easily from twelve yards. At this stage of play St Mirren's play was equal to Celtic's and two minutes from the interval McGill walked the ball through for a St Mirren goal. Celtic's third came seventeen minutes after half time, Haughney scoring from a penalty kick. Special mention must be made of Evans and Peacock in the Celtic team. St mirren's best players were Lapsley and Neilson.
