Trivia

  • This replay match was played at Celtic Park following the original drawn game two nights before at Firhill.

Review

The game went to extra time after it was still equal after 90 minutes. A poor 90 minutes with both sides profligate in front of goal and with little skill on display throughout the regulation time.
Celtic should have won this but fell asleep after Haughney's extra time goal and allowed McPartland to trundle a goal in to equalise.
Generally a poor game played in the rain. Smith pounced on a short back pass from Boden and cooly put the ball past Bonnar.
Haughney was the best outfield player for Celtic. His goal in extra time came after his penalty was saved by ledgerwood who was unable to react to the follow up. fernie equalised three minutes later after Fallon appeared to foul Davidson and Higgins crossed. Both Fernie and Fallon then hit the bar. Meechan was being beaten regularly by McKenzie.
Fallon was booked in the second half, along with Harvey and Kerr.

"The spectacle of Fallon trying his utmost to justify his selection as centre forward has become pathetic; his very enthusiasm may be his undoing if not the undoing of his opponent."
