Trivia

  • Tully was fit and back in the side, but oddly accommodated as outside right. Jimmy Walsh dropped out. The game was played on a sunny day but the ground was soft and treacherous underfoot.
  • This was the biggest crown in Britain at a football match this day.
  • Ex-Celt Robert Quinn is in the Hamilton defence.

Review

Both teams started slowly with Celtic having the better of the opening encounters without any reward. Smith picked up an injury half way through the first half. Accies had a chance to go ahead when Haughney was caught out of position upfield but the final pass went behind Cron with only Bonnar to beat. In the 27th minute Smith had to retire for nearly ten minutes for attention and came back still looking far from fit. Celtic's first goal came from a free kick taken by Fallon and scored by Collins. Right on the whistle for half time Hamilton equalised through Frank Quinn.

The second half started with Celtic pressure but Hamilton should have taken the lead when Armit took a pass from Cron but the attempt was wasted and between Bonnar and Haughney the ball was forced out. Hamilton enjoyed a good spell of play before Celtic scored a second in the 60th minute in a move involving Tully, Fallon and Collins. After that Celtic dug in for the win.
