Trivia

  • Charlie Tully was out with a groin injury sustained in the Rangers game and Eric Smith, who travelled up again from his Worcester barracks, came back in at outside right with Neil Mochan retained on the left.

Review

celtic started the game well and Collins , Mochan and fernie all had attempts. Fernie had a shot off the post too. The tackling was fierce and no quarter given by either side. celtic were getting closer and closer and the attention of the East Fife players was becoming keener and fiercer such that Keddie was eventually booked after a tussle with Haughney. The second half proceeded with the same level of Celtic attacking but without a goal. The crowd became restless with East Fife looking to pinch one on the break and Beattie having to be sharp. On 62 minutes the goal duly came when Fernie went on one of his typical mazy runs before passing to McPhail who shot home from 20 yards. McPhail almost added a second immediately after and East Fife had a penalty appeal turned down.

Job Done!!!! In the other game Rangers beat Aberdeen 4-1 at Ibrox but because Celtic failed to lose at Methil Celtic went through. They were drawn against Dunfermiline in the next round.
