Review

Celtic were unrecognisable from the team that had played so well at Easter Road. Rangers won 2-0 but it could have been an even bigger defeat bar the defending of Jack and the keeping of Beattie. What was probably worst was the lack of fighting spirit – that appeared to have passed to the terraces – from a Celtic team which underperformed all over the park.

Twelve men were arrested at the game. There were pitch invasions and stone and bottle throwing. Till half time things had been OK within the crowd other than the tribalism of Republic flags at one end and Union Jacks at the other. At half time an orange balloon was thrown on the park and drifted toward the Celtic supporters end. One supporter hurdled the fence and was immediately huckled. As he was led away another ran onto the pitch and dealt with the balloon and was also huckled. As he was being led away a hail of bottles and missiles came out of the crowd and people at the front jumped the fence to crouch behind it to avoid being hit. Another guy was lifted from behind the goal. Things then died down.

Twenty minutes from the end however trouble started at the Rangers end and glasses started to fly through the air. Up to a hundred leapt the fence and sheltered on the pitch with fights breaking out on the terraces. The police raided the terraces and bundled out six men.
