Trivia

  • The regular full backs of John Donnelly and Sean Fallon (knee) were both out, with the Reserve pairing of Frank Meechan and Neil Mochan coming in. Eric Smith was still side-lined with a back injury. Tully was trying to return from the troublesome leg injury but the injury proved difficult to treat and was unresponsive.
  • Bobby Evans and Bobby Collins both played in the Scottish League side against the English League side at Newcastle on 26th March losing 4-1. Willie Fernie was a travelling reserve.
  • 48 hours of continuous rain in Dundee saw the pitch covered from end to end in a sheet of shallow water making for treacherous conditions. The game however went on.
  • There was much talk in the papers of Celtic regrouping and some of the older senior players maybe finding themselves out of place to a first class group of youngsters being coached by Jock Stein in the Reserves.
  • In world affairs Fidel Castro issued an ultimatum to the Cuban President Juan Batista to leave off and the island by the 1st April of face the consequences. This marked the culmination of months of insurrection from the Cuban rebels against the Batistas.

Review

First action saw Bobby Cox throw up a hand to a Bobby Collins shot 'to protect his face'. Collins himself took the penalty shooting home to give Celtic the lead – which lasted all of two minutes. Dundee hit back with two quick goals from Sneddon and Bonthrone, the first coming from a Beattie error. Matt McVittie equalised before the interval from a Bobby Collins cross.
Dundee came out to press home advantage in the second half and were ahead after just two minutes, Cousin scoring from a corner. Celtic fought back but were unable to break down Dundee. Curlett scored two goals for Dundee to put them firmly in the driving seat and Sammy Wilson got a consolation goal for Celtic five minutes from the end.

At the end of the month Hearts were still runaway leaders and Celtic were in third place.
