  • In greater Glasgow news, the original Barrowlands Ballroom was destroyed in a fire on the night of 18th/19th August. Originally opened in Christmas 1934 the ballroom was a popular venue and had withstood the ravages of the Blitz. The original electric sign showed a man pushing a barrow. The Ballroom was actually mentioned by the Nazi quisling Lord Haw Haw several times in broadcasts during the war.

Review

After 17 minutes Bobby Evans picked up a back injury and had to leave the field. This was the first time that Bobby Evans had ever left the fiel;d for an injury in his career. After Bertie Auld scored with a shot from 25 yards Celtic defended tenaciously and were on the verge of pulling off a win with 10 men, Evans having not been on the field for over an hour, Peacock going to centre half and Sammy Wilson coming back to left half. Clyde were clumsy against 10 men and should have pressed their superiority especially given the ouitstanding talent of Evans that no longer confronted them. Beattie then gave away a goal following a mix-up and a minute later Currie headed home to give Clyde the lead. beattie's mistake was all the more agonising as he had played well up to that pioint making crucial saves especially from Tommy Ring.
