Trivia

  • A fit again Bertie Peacock took his place at left half with Eric Smith dropping out; Conway was aklso fit and replaced Alec Byrne, who had taken a hip knock against Third Lanark, at centre forward. Sean Fallon had come through two reserve games and was again fit for selection.
  • The SFA were taking a strong stand against the desirability of televising football matches. They had backed themselves into a corner stating that the recent England-Russia game would not be televised only for the BBC to go ahead with tel;evising the game in Scotland. Like all bureaucrats they were now determined to prove how powerful they were. Their view was that television fundamentally undermined attendances and as such had to be limited.
  • Beattie, MacKay and Auld were called to the Scottish training camp at Turnberry for trials.
  • The Reserves were also in action against Dundee. The team was Haffey, Fallon, Kennedy, Crerand, Evans, Clark, Donnelly, McVittie, Lochhead, Colrain, Murphy. Evans had a reaction from his back at the end of the game and had to come off 2 minutes early. he was told to stop training immediately and to visit his specialist for a further consultation.

Review

A fast and hectic game played by both teams trying for the win in slippery cionditions with a greasy ball. Perhaps the recipe for a tight game but this one was far from it. Both sides played exciting football. Celtic's recovery from 1-0 down at half time was down to Peacock who led from the front and by example. He set up players time and again and the evenness stood through the display of Brown in the Dundee goal. Higgins finally scored on 63 minutes from an old free kick. Celtic had been behind after Billy McNeill's head deflected the ball past Beattie in the first half.
