Trivia

  • Prior to the Reserves game at Celtic Park on Friday night against Airdrie Reserves, an announcement was made over the tannoy stating that Bertie Auld had withdrawn his letter requesting a transfer.
  • The Celtic third team (playing in the Combined Reserve League) played Morton at Barrowfield. The side was Fallon, Curran, Thomson, Lynch, McNamee, Conroy, McDonach, Gallagher, Lochhead, O'Hara, Henderson.
  • Third game and third shuffle up front. Back in came Matt McVittie at inside right; John Colrain moved to centre forward; Tommy Mackle was dropped and Alec Byrne moved to outside left.

Review

The away support had something to cheer on four minutes when Bobby Carroll opened the score for Celtic. Colrain put them further in front when his header was deflected in by Baillie. Three minutes later Airdrie pulled one back through Storrie and he got his second on 16 minutes. At half time it was all square at 2 a piece.
The second half was all Airdrie. Ex-Celtic Jim Sharkey gave Bobby Evans the run round. Celtic had no answer to the combined attacks of Airdrie despite shuffling the front line.
