Trivia

  • Neither of the sides announced teams before Saturday.
  • The big football news in Scotland this week was the transfer of Joe McBride to Wolves for £12,500. Matt McVittie was also transferred from Celtic to St Johnstone on the 25th November.
  • The only change to the Celtic team was Mike Jackson dropping out and Dan O'Hara coming in at inside right. The Maryhill Magyars were however a changed side, with seven changes to the side beaten by Airdrie the previous week and 2 – Devine and Simpson – had played the previous night at Celtic Park for the Reserves with this game being their senior debuts for the Jags.

Review

Divers and Devine had early efforts for either side in what was initially a scrappy game. In the tenth minute Devine beat Donnelly again and crossed for Fleming to score. Bertie Auld had an attempt to pull things level but new man Devine was making all the play for Partick. Colrain was warned for dissent. Both sides looked poor but Thistle were making the best of the poor going. Five minutes before half time Thistle got a second from a neat move which Smith finished, and just before the whistle Celic pulled one back when Divers fired home from a Chalmers corner.

The second half continued in the same vein with plenty of bluff and bluster but little quality football. Five minutes from time Smith got his second and the Jags third.

A poor game from two poor sides.
