Trivia

• Both McNeill and Auld who had picked up ankle knocks in the previous game against Raith Rovers, were out. In came Crerand and Divers for them. Also in came John Kurila for a first start of the season for Bobby Evans, who appeared to have picked up a knee injury during training in the week, and Dan O'Hara replaced Eric Smith, who was also unfit, at inside right. For Clyde Clinton was out at left half. Tommy Ring, Clyde's international winger also failed to start as he was about to be transferred to Everton, however they played a new man in 20 year old John McLaughlin who was originallty from Clydebank and about to be demobbed from the Army.
• In the previous week Celtic had made an attempt to sign Jack Mudie from Blackpool. Mudie, and experienced inside forward had been scoring goals but was in dispute with Blackpool and it was thouight that he would be the person to put some added steel into the forward line. Blackpool however replied that he was not for sale after an air-clearing meeting.
• Celtic announced the arrangement of a floodlit night Friendly game against Everton for the 27th January. The game would see the return to Celtic Park of Bobby Collins, sold to Everrton for £24,000 in September 1958.
• This was only John Kurila's second full game for the first team and he acquitted himself well and showed the great promise available for the future. Speculation was rife that if Everton were not ssful in signing Tommy Ring then Celtic would step in with a bid. Certainly there seemed to be a realisatioin that the team needed strengthening with experience.

Review

New start for Clyde, John McLaughlin turned out to be some find scoring twice and setting up another. Alec Byrne got two for Celtic with Neil Mochan converting an early penalty to leave the score even at 3-3.
In the fourth minute Finlay fouled O'Hara for a penalty which was calmly dispatched by Mochan in his usual manner. Back came Clyde and McLaughlin scored his first from a header from a turned back ball from Shearer. A period of end-to-end football followed but McLaughlin was having a star game for Clyde and he beat Haffey again but not the crossbar in the 18th minute. McLaughlin made Clyde's second goal when he crossed for Robertson to shoot home. Byrne equalised not long after from a Divers cross. Clyde were not finished and Robertson and McLaughlin again combined. At half time it was 3-2 with all to play for in what was turning out to be a good game.
The second half continued fast. Celtic eventually got an equaliser when Byrne bundled the ball in. A decent game between two well-matched sides.
