Trivia

  • This was the first game as manager of Dunfermiline for Celtic legend Jock Stein.
  • Celtic signed Frank Connor from Blantyre Celtic. Goalkeeper Frank had had a trial back in January with the Reserves against Rangers Reserves. During this he had pulled down Rangers striker Max Murray and given away a penalty immediately after kick off. Celtic had been kept an eye on him since and signed the 24 year old.
  • For Celtic both Billy McNeill and Neil Mochan recovered from their injuries. Colrain and Crerand lost out with Conway moving to outside right to accommodate Mochan at centre forward.

Review

Dunfermiline got the early break when Evans missed a simple pass and Dickson raced on and beat Haffey. This was in the first 15 seconds of the game. On twenty minutes Celtic were back level when Conway pounced on a missed cross and put the ball away. Byrne was playing well and unlucky not to score with two shots.
In the second half A Smith of Dunfermiline went on a mazy run bnefore passing to an unmarked Melrose who scored. Two minutes later melrose completed almost an identiocal manoeuvre to put the Pars 3-1 up. Byrne picked up another goal for Celtic after a Conway breakawy and shot was palmed out to him and he put the ball away.
