Trivia

  • A Monday night floodlit game to try to clear the fixture backlog. This was the third game in five days.
  • Bobby Evans was away playing for the Scottish League against the English League at Highbury. Pat Crerand came in at right half and Billy McNeill went to centre half. John Colrain came in instead of Jim Conway. The international match also took Ian St John and Bert McCann out of the Motherwell side.

Review

A good and deserved win for Celtic with Crerand playing well at right half. Motherwell also played well to make it an entertaining game but lacked the firepower of Ian St John up front. Evans was hardly missed with Billy McNeill proving that this was really his best position. Mochan got both Celtic goals. Mochan's second goal had a hint offside to it.
