Trivia

  • The rearranged game from 3rd December of which three attempts had already been made to try and play.
  • Johnny Divers was out with a leg strain and in came Jim Conway, who had been expected to start ahead of Johnny Kelly in the previous game against Motherwell. Kelly kept his place with Fernie, Hughes and Auld still nursing injuries.
  • The pitch was wet and the kick off delayed for five minutes while groundstaff forked the pitch to try and get areas of standing water to drain away. needless to say it cut up fast and turned into a quagmire where any semblance of decent football could not be played.

Review

The ground spoiled any chance of a decent game with passes hanging up and the ball unpredictable with players slipping and sliding all over the road. Conway looked good at centre forward and got the opening goal on 10 minutes. A shot from Peacock was skied off the line and Chalmers returned the ball on the volley only to see it come out to Conway who hit a point blank shot home. Four minutes lfrom the interval Byrne with a degree of fortune as Chalmers shot rebounded from the keepers feet and the pass back from the Dundee defender was totally missed allowing Byrne to srteal in and tap home. Dundee pulled a goal back in the second half when an Alan Gilzean shot rebounded to Robertson to score past Haffey.
