Trivia

  • Two Celtic players were transferred on the 1st May. Bertie Auld was given a transfer to Birmingham City after the clubs agreed a fee of around £15,000. Jim Conway was also transferred to Norwich City for a fee of £12,000.
  • Crerand and McNeill, who would be playing for Scotland the following night, were rested. In came John McNamee and Johnny Kelly. Also out was Alec Byrne and in a reshuffle of the front line, in came John Divers for his first start since the end of January. For Queens, W Neil at centre half joined from Airdrie only a few hours before kick off.

Review

Once again Celtic came up against a goalkeeper on excellent form. Despite having the majority of the play, they found Donaldson leaping like a cat to make spectacular saves, even stopping a MacKay penalty in the first five minutes. McNamee in conceding the free kick that led to Queens third goal injured himself and Celtic played the last ten minutes with ten men. After drawing 3-3 the tie went to Celtic on the toss of a coin.

Celtic would meet Clyde in the final.
