Trivia

  • Jim Kennedy and Bobby Carroll were in the Scottish League side which played a Scotland XI in an international trial at Hampden.
  • Billy McNeill (ankle), Pat Crerand (leg strain) and Steve Chalmers (stomach upset) all missed this game. As such this represented a major team change for Celtic – three team members changed in a team which had been stable since September. In came John Clark and John McNamee – both able replacements – and Alec Byrne continued in place of Steve Chalmers.
  • Jimmy McGrory and Sean Fallon went to watch the Ireland U23 game against wales to take a specific interest in inside forward Billy Johnston of Glenavon. Also Terry Harkin of Coleraine was in the spotlight.

Review

A scrappy game with Celtic clearly out of sorts. Gradually Albion got into the game with a belief that they might in. But the first half was a ratty dull affair with shots astray from both sides. In the second half Lawlor grabbed his chance for Stirling controlling a long ball before shooting home. Celtic had a raft of chances in the second half but failed to score.
