Review

A stunning day of Cup ties in Scotland. This was always going to be a tight game and ity prooved to be a real thriller to the end.
Celtic were off from the first whistle and almost had a goal on 30 seconds. This was all Celtic at the start and on 12 minutes they got their reward when Crerand deftly lobbed a ball over the wall from a free kick won by John Hughes. Divers collected and slotted the ball past Marshall. celtic were better in the air and in defense but Hearts kept on lobbing balls into the penalty area which were meat and drink to the Celtic defenders. On twenty minutes though they got a break and paton lobbed a ball up for Blackwood to head home. 1-1 at half time.
The Bhoys restarted at the pace they began the game. Both sides missed chances and a thoroughly good game was on the cards. On 71 Haffey gathered a cross and all looked safe – but he let it fall, Hamilton pounced and Celtic were behind. back came Celtic and almost immediately they not only equalised but went ahead. The first came when Chalmers beat the offside trap and shot home, and four minutes later jackson crossed and Divers headed home. Hearts were not finished. Eight minutes from the end they won an indirect free kick which eventually found it's way to Paton who fired home. The final turn came to Celtic. Hughes was upended in the box and though Marshall saved Crerand's first attempt the referee ordered a retake for Hearts infringing on the penalty area before the kicjk was taken. Crerand made no mistake with the retake.

The final outcome and the opinion of the pundits after the game was that Hearts had suffered an injustice on the offside decision for Chalmers goal but that the penalty and the decision for the retake was correct.
