Review

Third Lanark got off to a good start and had several early chances. Chalmers got the first when Brogan's shot failed to be held and Chalmers put the the loose ball away. This was the signal for a pitch invasion by hundreds of youths which then saw referee Phillips talking to the police match commander. Thirds hit back with two goals the first from Harley and a second from Gray. Thirds were getting a lot of good ball from their left side and looked the more composed team. Celtic stepped on the gas but their forwards failed to gel. In the 38th minute they went further behind when Gray got his second of the game. Celtic took off from the restart and had shots from Hughes, Chalmers and Divers scrambled off the line.
Celtic came out for the second with new desire and had their reward quickly when again Chalmers picked up a deflected Brogan shot and fired home. The play was now all in the Thirds half and before long Celtic were in front with goals from Brogan and Hughes. When Gray equalised for Third Lanark the result was fair with both teams having fought well and hard to win the game and cancelling each other out at various periods and every player on the park giving everything.
