Trivia

  • This replay was held at Hampden due to concerns for public safety at Cathkin for a Wednesday night quarter final replay and the numbers expected.
  • In the draw for the semi final Celtic were paired against St Mirren to be played at Ibrox and Rangers against Motherwell to be played at Hampden.
  • The only change for Celtic was Alec Byrne coming in at outside left in place of Bobby Carroll. For Third Lanark Lewis had recovered from a groin strain allowing Cunningham to go back to his more usual half back position.

Review

After such a good match in the first game this replay turned out to be a bit of a let down. Third Lanark's forwards didn't turn up and played into the hands of the Celtic defense.
The first half was goalless and even. In the second Divers made a lot of running and set up positions for the other forwards. Chalmers got the first with a header from a Brogan corner. Hughes then scored two, beating McCormick both times before unleashing his shot. And at the end Alec Byrne scored with a lusty shot.
