Trivia

  • Celtic confirmed that they had arranged to play Real Madrid in a Friendly at Celtic Park in September. The man behind the coup was businessman Max Benjamin.
  • For Celtic the only change was Bobby Carroll coming back in at outside right for Frank Brogan.

Review

A surprising defeat which put Celtixc out of any contention for the League title.
Airdrie started well but Celtic oon got themselves together and started to look the side most likely to score. Airdrie were up against it but still defended desperately and generally well. Hughes missed two sitters and at the other end Haffey kept out a number of Aidrie attempts. At half time it was still scoreless.
The goal when it came was a shock. Duncan beat MacKay and crossed for an unmarked Murray to shoot home. Airdrie defended resolutely to the whistle to pull off a shock defeat of Celtic.
